About Borgoway

Borgoway started with a personal frustration: planning a self-guided walk in Italy as a foreign traveller is harder than it should be. Language barriers, unreliable booking information, and the complexity of coordinating accommodation and luggage across multiple stages all conspire to make the preparation as exhausting as the walk itself.
After walking the Via degli Dei and experiencing this firsthand, I built Borgoway to solve it — not as a generic tour operator, but as a specialist for these specific routes, with genuine local knowledge and a belief that independent travellers deserve better support than they currently get.
Every route we offer is one I've walked. Every accommodation we book is one I've stayed in or personally verified. The difficult conversations about whether a route is suitable for a particular walker's fitness level are ones I have directly — because getting that wrong has real consequences.
Why only four routes?
Because we’ve walked them. Every route Borgoway offers is one the founder has personally walked and for which we have direct, verified knowledge of the accommodation options, the waymarking reliability, the seasonal access conditions, and the genuine difficulty.
Offering routes you haven’t walked yourself — relying on third-party descriptions and generic booking databases — produces the kind of logistical problems that ruin a walker’s trip. We’d rather offer four routes we know deeply than twenty routes we know superficially.
As we verify more routes through direct experience, we’ll add them.
